  • Vision answers “What do we want to create?”
  • Values answer “How are we going to behave?”

Video Highlights

  • Values answer the question: “How are we going to behave?”
  • Values are the enduring beliefs you seek in order to attain your purpose and vision.
  • Values define what is fundamentally important to you, your family, your team, and your organization.
  • Values guide choices and actions in pursuit of the overall purpose and vision.
  • To be useful, values need to be identified with a definition and specific daily behaviors.
  • Behaviors are things that you can check off at the end of the day.
  • Behaviors allow you to hold yourself accountable for how you are living out the purpose and vision.
  • Living out your values tells others what is important to you.
  • Bounce every decision you make off of your values.
  • Living out organizational values is one of the most powerful tools available to a leader. It helps you to bring out the desired culture.
  • Focusing first and foremost on the desired culture will enable the purpose and vision of the organization to be fully realized.
  • It is up to you as the leader to cultivate values on a daily basis. It all starts with you being the model by consistently living them out.
  • Embed your values in everything you do. Elevate and discuss them as often as you can. Start every meeting with them.
  • You will know you have had success when every team member can accurately state the values and how to behave in alignment with them…and every vendor and customer relationship reflects them.
  • Jesus was very intentional with sharing his values as well as living them out every day. (Matthew 22:35-40 & Luke 4:18-19)

Bible Verses

“And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 22:35-40 (ESV)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
    because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Luke 4:18-19 (ESV)
